The Chairman of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) Abdulrasheed Bawa in a meeting with council members of the African Bar Association (AFBA) discussed the importance of decisively dealing with corruption without which the continent would not be able to achieve fundamental goals set for its development.

Bawa spoke at the virtual meeting of the 5th African Union Day of Anti-Corruption, and highlighted that the African Vision (Agenda 2063) will not be achieved if corruption persists, this means the vision for an Africa of good governance, democracy, and respect for human rights, justice and the rule of law is only but a mirage if actionable steps are not taking to eradicate corruption.

The chairman of Nigeria’s Independent Corrupt Practices (ICPC), Bolaji Owasanoye also urged the AFBA to help fight corruption in both the public and private sectors. His emphasis was for the association to take measures in regulating the legal industry; and to encourage lawyers to prosecute corrupt actors.
